Sleap, Wem …Proprietor Eve Dodds – 07743 644795

2017 was a strange year for Sleapy Cat Rescue, there was a period in time that we were more like a hospital than a rescue/re-homing centre as everyone we had in was either on prescription diets or medication because unwell, this did effect our homing figures but we still managed to re-home 59 Cats and 59 Kittens. Lets hope 2018 is a little kinder 🙂  We managed to re-unite 9 owners with there pets due to microchips which was great 🙂

Last Update on Fifi

Fifi’s memorial for her grave arrived yesterday, I have put it on her grave and she is buried beside my own cats that I have lost over the years, I said a little prayer and shed a few tears, bless her. The RSPCA did come to see me but although I had photographic evidence and a vets report they said it was not enough! So no justice for Fifi 🙁 I hope she is running free over that rainbow bridge with lots of friends, she will never be forgotten.

This is the hardest post I am ever likely to make, I have seen the specialist report today and not all was as rosy as I was told, I feel Fifi is now suffering due to the drool, her little mouth and surrounding area’s like her chin are red and sore due to me having to wipe loads of drool all the time, I cannot satisfy her hunger and believe me I have tried everything, when she has a feed it lasts approx half an hour and she want’s more, the first picture is her clawing at the cage wanting food and it’s like that every time I go in there, the second pic shows how she still drools it’s all around her mouth and runs off the buster collar. Even if the tongue did shrink it’s not a functioning tongue and never will be due to the scarring (and there are no guarantees) and possibly the drool would decrease but again no guarantees which would mean her wearing a collar for the rest of her life to stop her trying to groom herself as when she did she covered her body in drool and accumulated fur at the back of her throat and would have to give her hourly feeds (I struggle to do 2hrs) I have not come to this decision lightly believe me, I really love this cat and really really wanted to get her back to her former glory but can’t work miracles I’m very sad to say, so I have her booked into our vets tomorrow morning for her to be put to sleep 22/3/14 and put her out of her misery, I will bring her home and bury her in the garden with my past cats.  Thank you all so much for your support it hasn’t been an easy two and half months. I have reported the owner to the RSPCA hopefully they will prosecute, we all know accidents happen but you do something about it not just leave it.  RIP my beautiful Fifi Foo Fighter :'(

Sorry to keep everyone waiting but Fifi’s food had to come first as she had not eaten since 8pm last night, ok there is nothing surgically that can be done but the scarring on her tongue in time should reduce the size of the tongue meaning less drool, unfortunately a liquid diet causes more drool but there are no guarantees, the sides of her mouth are infected but antibiotics will not help they will only make worse so……….don’t laugh, I have to get a antibacterial mouthwash for her and clean the inside of her mouth with her very own toothbrush twice a day!! He thought it was worth a try as in every other respect she is improving. I have tried the toothbrush this afternoon and she actually likes it and bites at it so that’s half the battle, gotta do a google search for Chiorhexidine mouthwash now, bless her heart was so pleased she came back  Fifi and I would like to say a HUMUNGUS thank you for all your kind words thoughts and prayers, thank you so much for your support it means so much  meow xx

Fifi has been back to the vets this week she has not gained any weight but she has not lost it either she is still 2.20kg. Our vets Bridgefield Veterinary Surgery Wem are referring to a specialist in Manchester who deals in facial reconstruction she has an appointment at 10am on Tuesday 18th March, the drool is no better 🙁 so this is her last chance as we will have explored every avenue, she has been with us since 10th January and although she has improved weight wise the drool hasn’t, if something can be done that will be great but if not she really does not have any quality of life so it will mean she will be put to sleep, sad as that will be 🙁 Lets keep positive until Tuesday and I will update again then……keeping absolutely everything crossed, she looks a hell of a lot better than when she came in, it’s just the drool we need to get under control if that is possible

Update on Fifi 4/3/14

IMG_4832

Fifi has spent the night in the vets, she has had a long lasting antibiotic jab which hopefully help her skin, she has had another bath and cream applied to her skin, she now has to wear an inflatable buster collar to stop her trying to groom her skin which she can’t do due to her tongue and the drool that settles on her skin is full of bacteria, hence the infected skin, she only has the collar off to eat and then it’s straight back on, this is really her last chance to get better, she will go for another health check in two weeks time and we will see what the vet thinks, although they are worried about her thick scarred tongue, lets think positive until then, on a brighter note she has gained weight once again, she now weighs 2.20kg so slow but sure, I pray to god she makes it :/

Update on Fifi 3/3.14

I have had to take and leave Fifi at the vets this morning 🙁 her skin is very sore and looks like she has an ulcer on her leg, both vets were operating and will take a good look at her once they are finished, hopefully antibiotics will do the trick, watch this space, C’mon Fifi you can fight this  😥

Update on Fifi 1st March 2014

IMG_4831

Fifi is putting on weight nicely, she now weighs 2.17kg so heading in the right direction, she went for a bath on Thursday and had her nails clipped as she is still drooling quite badly when she has her prescription food, her throat has healed very well indeed but the vet does not know if the tongue will reduce in size, only time will tell. She is a little quiet today and seems off her food a bit, I have spoken to the vet who said keep an eye on her and if problems to take her in. All of us at Sleapy Cat Rescue want her to get fully recovered and find her forever loving home when the time is right………watch this space!!
